Artist Spotlight: Ryan Kuratomi
Meet the subject of our Artist Spotlight, photographer Ryan Kuratomi. His street-style vibed imagery is full of color and contrasty black-and-whites, emphasizing the emotional draw that his subjects throw at Ryan's lens. His images feel like time-has stopped for a quick second and while he plays with different lighting, colors, and subjects his work always has character.
Nesha Torres and I had been shooting together for a couple months before I proposed doing this studio session. She is a local model, photographer, and stylist and she brings a lot to the table when we work together. During the planning phase of the shoot, we had discussed styling it so we could do some black and white shots which came out nicely in the studio set up. For lighting, I was experimenting with the Litepanels Astra in addition to a couple of Canon wireless flashes. We are really happy with the images we came out with!
